Abstract art information written to inspire!
The development of future abstract artists and the creation of new works can be inspired by other artists from our recent past.
In need of inspiration?
Have a look at the Movement list or find an artist of interest from the Modernism List.
(More artists and Movements are being added weekly so if you want to keep up why not add this site as a blog to your homepage.)

My painting started to evolve once I began to research other artist's life and works.
Through them I began to understand myself.

I discovered that like some Surrealists I tend to work without any planning preferring instead to use a kind of 'automatism' (see Surrealist Movement) My painting evolves in real time as one decision effects the next and so on like a chain reaction. I have a feeling of 'knowing' what I want the painting to look like and I don't stop until I achieve it. An example of someone similar is the Abstract Expressionist Jackson Pollock.(please see Post Modernism
list)
However the movement that originally inspired me was Cubism.
After painting many works I realised that through automatism my work seemed to be very angular. Even although I didn't understand the Cubist philosophy at the time.(see Cubism Movement) Pablo Picasso sparked my interest in finding out more about other artists.

I realised that I wasn't trying to create a new way of seeing or a universal language rather I was expressing what was somehow hidden within myself.
The biggest clue was my subject matter. It was non-representative and non-figurative. It wasn't really a choice my work is just 'as is.'
So when I discovered Kandinsky (see Kandinsky Modernism List) I learned that there are other artists like me. This was a relief to find out that perhaps I'm not crazy after all.
Some people lose ears but I lose time when I create!
His work doesn't resemble my work (see About Me) rather I understand his philosophy and Art Form. I am basically an Abstract Expressionist and a Post Modernist!(See Post Modernism)
I use Abstraction to Express my feelings, and my spirit.
I embrace art for personal growth and believe that avant-gardism is archaic.
Please use this site to find out more about yourself.
It truly gives my work meaning because I have trampled the well worn road of self discovery! (To be honest I've never gotten of it.)
Other artists hold the key as their art like my art is an extension of themselves. We can collect clues about their lives, personality and techniques from what they have produced.
Anyway what have you got to lose?
